Celebrate Older Americans Month in May

Each year the Administration on Aging (AoA) issues a theme for Older Americans Month to assist our National Aging Services Network (of state, tribal, area agencies on aging, and community services providers) in planning for activities and celebrations throughout the month of May.  This year’s theme “Age Strong! Live Long!” recognizes the diversity and vitality of today’s older Americans who span three generations.

Here’s a fact to ponder: When Older Americans Month was established in 1963, only 17 million living Americans had reached their 65th birthdays. In 2000, that number more than doubled to 34.8 million (12% of the total population). And in 2030, just twenty years from now, it will double yet again to 70.3 million (20% of the population).  Amazing!
